Review guide

Overview

Filmchief supports the process of reviewing films (or other kinds of submitted entries) by enabling coordinators to assign entries to Reviewer users, track review progress, and gather ratings and insights to support programming decisions.

Creating reviewers

Each reviewer needs a user account with the Reviewer role. Reviewers who have only this role will have limited access, restricted to viewing and reviewing their assigned films. Users with multiple roles, including Reviewer, will have additional permissions based on their assigned roles. Administrators can create and manage reviewer accounts by navigating to SYSTEM > Filmchief users.

Tip: You can create a dummy reviewer account to preview exactly how reviewers see their assigned films and progress.

Assigning films to reviewers

To assign films:

  1. Navigate to any film list in Filmchief.
  2. Select the films you wish to assign.
  3. Click the Add to Reviewer dropdown menu and select one or more reviewers or reviewer groups.

Assigning films to reviewers

Using reviewer groups

To simplify film assignment, Filmchief supports Reviewer groups. A Reviewer group is a tag used to group reviewers who review the same set of films, such as "International Competition." Assigning films to these groups is as easy as selecting the group name from the Add to Reviewer dropdown, instantly assigning the selected films to all members of the group.

Tip: Reviewers who are assigned to the predefined group "All incoming films" will automatically get all submitted films assigned to them.

Reviewer interface

Reviewers logging into Filmchief with the Reviewer role (without any additional roles) will see a simplified, intuitive interface displaying:

  • Films assigned to them for review.
  • Films already reviewed and rated.
  • Films remaining to be reviewed.

Reviewer's Home page

Each of these links take them to a convenient overview list of their assigned films and ratings.

Rating and feedback

By default, reviewers are asked to provide:

  • A rating from 1 to 5.
  • Answers to a set of predefined questions, designed to assist programming teams in making informed selections.

If your festival requires a different scoring system or different set of questions, please contact Filmchief support with your requirements.

Monitoring review progress

Filmchief includes several tools to monitor review progress efficiently:

  • Home page progress chart: Visual bar charts show overall and per-reviewer progress.
  • Film lists: Include columns such as Average rating and Number of reviewers by customizing your lists via the Review & Selection section in the list settings dialog.

Reviewers progress

Tip: Create and share your own film lists to include relevant review-specific details, to aid your festival's decision-making workflow.
